Raised Garden Bed
Raised Garden Bed
A Raised Garden Bed is a maintenance-free in-house gardening surface that holds seeds and grows them to maturity without water, potions, or daily tending. Introduced in Publish 70.0.4 as part of the Rustic Theme Pack 2011, also sold separately as the Set of Three Garden Beds. The bed eliminates the busywork of plant maintenance — seeds grow as if in a plant pot but with no daily watering or potion regimen, producing the standard 8 seeds and resources per plant type before the plant settles into a no-additional-yield mature state.
Sizes and Orientations
There are four formats to pick from when placing the bed, varying by footprint and which axis the longer dimension faces:
| Format | Size (tiles) |
|---|---|
| Raised Garden Bed (Small) | 2 × 2 — 4 plots |
| Raised Garden Bed (South) | 2 × 3 — 6 plots, longer edge facing south |
| Raised Garden Bed (East) | 3 × 2 — 6 plots, longer edge facing east |
| Raised Garden Bed (Large) | 3 × 3 — 9 plots |
When placing, target the cursor at what will be the bed's north-west corner — the bed extends south-east from that point.
Placing and Constraints
- The bed must be placed inside a house.
- House customisation is blocked while a garden bed is inside — pick the bed up first if you need to enter customise mode.
- Only the house owner and co-owners can place or remove a bed.
Planting and Fertile Dirt
To plant a seed, double-click the seed and target an empty plot in the bed. If you have no Fertile Dirt in your pack, the seed plants immediately. If you do, a fertile-dirt application gump appears asking whether to use it — Fertile Dirt must be in your main top-level backpack (not in a sub-bag) to be detected.
Removing Plants
There are two paths for getting a plant out of the bed:
- Mature plants — set the plant to Decorative via the plant gump. The plot empties and the decorative plant goes to your backpack. There is no other way to remove a mature plant from a bed.
- Seed or sapling stage — use the Empty Plot icon (bottom right corner of the plant gump). The plot empties; the seed returns to your backpack.
- Beyond sapling stage but pre-mature — using Empty Plot destroys the plant. There is no recovery.
Security and Tending Rules
The bed extends the standard plant-tending permission rules to in-bed plants. The house owner is always omnipotent over the bed; co-owner tending is account-scoped to the planter:
- House owner — can always tend any plant in the bed regardless of who planted it. Can collect seeds and resources, can empty plots.
- Owner-planted seed — only characters on the house owner's account can tend it.
- Co-owner-planted seed — any character on the same account as the planting co-owner can tend it.
- Co-owner not on the planter's account — cannot tend.
This makes the bed friction-free for solo gardeners and account-shared multi-character setups, while preserving normal multi-account house-share boundaries.
Yields
- 8 seeds per plant type that produces seeds.
- 8 resources per plant type that produces resources.
- Mature plants left in the plot beyond their yield window remain alive but produce no additional seeds or resources — they continue to occupy the plot until removed via the Decorative-set step.
