Eodon
Eodon
The Valley of Eodon is a Trammel-ruleset facet introduced with the Time of Legends expansion — a self-contained pre-historic land of dinosaurs, jungle tribes, and the ancient Kotl civilization, drawing direct inspiration from the single-player Worlds of Ultima: Savage Empires. Where the rest of Britannia trades in medieval and Asian-fantasy idiom, Eodon is the realm of mesas, volcanoes, sulphur pits, and tyrannosaurs. Six tribal nations live in uneasy alliance against a deeper threat — the insectoid Myrmidex rising from the pits below, and the dark sorcery of Zipactriotl at the heart of the valley. Above all looms the fortress of Shadowguard, where the enchantress Minax has taken refuge.
Facet rules
Eodon follows the standard Trammel ruleset: no non-consensual PvP, full sanctuary in the open world. The facet's surface is reachable through a moongate; entering Eodon for the first time requires picking up the introductory questline. Most travel spells (Recall, Sacred Journey, Gate Travel) function normally on the surface; dungeon entries (Zipactriotl's Chamber, the Myrmidex Pits, the Volcano, Shadowguard) follow standard travel-restriction rules.
The six tribes
Six tribal nations populate the central Valley of Eodon, each ruled by a High Chief or Chieftess and each holding a distinct cultural identity. The Time of Legends questlines move through the tribes in sequence, and the alliance among them — the precondition for confronting the Myrmidex — is the central political arc of the expansion.
| Tribe | High leader | Cultural mark |
|---|---|---|
| Barrab Tribe | (chief unnamed) | Northwestern villagers near the Great Mesa |
| Kurak Tribe | Ogger the Kurak High Chief | Central settlement; the entry tribe for new arrivals |
| Urali Tribe | Olaufee the Urali High Chieftess | Northeastern tribe in the swamp belt |
| Sakkhra Tribe | Karawyn the Sakkhra High Chieftess | Highland tribe, strong magical traditions |
| Barako Tribe | Ogger the Barako High Chief | Central-east villagers; the second Ogger High Chief in the valley |
| Jukari Tribe | Vek the Jukari High Chief | Southern tribe near the volcano and Shadowguard approach |
Kotl City
The seventh major settlement is Kotl City — not a tribal nation, but the ancient remains of a fallen civilization. Where the tribes are stone-age and shamanic, the Kotl built in metal, glass, and clockwork mechanism: their ruins still hold automated guardians, energy-conduit traps, and the sealed entrance to Zipactriotl's Chamber, where the Kotl's own dark prince waits to be confronted. The city sits in the heart of the valley and is the prerequisite location for the Myrmidex Battles event.

Shadowguard
Shadowguard is the centerpiece encounter of Time of Legends. The fortress rises in the southern reaches of the valley, accessible only via the Volcano pathway and a fixed staircase. Its four towers each host a thematic challenge:
- Bar Tower — alcohol-themed environmental puzzle ending in a major mob encounter.
- Orchard Tower — apple-tree environment with mass mob spawn.
- Armory Tower — weapon-themed mob encounter; ends in a peerless-tier boss.
- Belfry Tower — bell-themed timing puzzle.
Defeating all four towers unlocks the Roof — the apex encounter where Minax is finally confronted. Roof completion drops Shadowguard artifacts, the highest-tier itemization of the Time of Legends content cycle.
Unique creatures
Eodon's bestiary is the most distinctive of any UO facet:
- Tyrannosaurus Rex — apex predator; tameable as an exotic mount with Animal Taming.
- Dragon Turtle — central champion-spawn boss; drops the Champion Power Scroll table for Eodon's Champion Spawn.
- Myrmidex Queen — boss-tier encounter at the Myrmidex Pits.
- The Zealotry of Zipactriotl — Kotl-priest boss in Zipactriotl's Chamber.
- The Great Ape — Cave of the Great Ape boss.
- Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, Saurosaurus — themed dinosaur lineup, several tameable.
- Cu Sidhe (in select corners) — overlap with the Tokuno-style fauna.
- Lizardmen, Lava Tigers, Eagles, Tigers — minor fauna across the valley.
Key NPCs
- Hawkwind — quest hub for the central Time of Legends questline; teleporter to Eodon for new arrivals.
- Sir Geoffrey — questgiver in the Barrab area; introductory contact for new visitors.
- Ogger the Kurak High Chief — central tribal contact, gateway to the alliance questline.
- Olaufee the Urali High Chieftess — magical/shamanic questline contact.
- Karawyn the Sakkhra High Chieftess — Sakkhra alliance contact.
- Ogger the Barako High Chief — second Ogger; the Barako alliance contact (the name overlap is canonical, not a typo).
- Vek the Jukari High Chief — Jukari alliance contact, southern approach.
Time of Legends and the Myrmidex Battles
The Time of Legends expansion frames Eodon as the central battleground of three converging plotlines:
- The Myrmidex threat — the insect colony rising from the pits, the apocalyptic threat to all six tribes.
- The Kotl revival — the ancient civilization in Kotl City, whose buried technology promises power but is gated behind Zipactriotl.
- Minax's stronghold — Shadowguard, the central villain's refuge from her conflicts elsewhere in Britannia.
The Myrmidex Battles event is a recurring scheduled fight in the Pits where players defend the surface tribes against waves of Myrmidex. Battle participation rewards tickets exchangeable for Time of Legends artifacts — the most reliable farm route for the expansion's mid-tier loot.
Travel
Eodon's primary moongate sits south of the central tribes (Kurak / Barako axis). Standard moongate travel from elsewhere in Britannia routes to this gate via the "Go to: Eodon" / "Valley of Eodon" option. Internal travel uses Recall on a Trammel-ruleset surface, with no internal teleport restrictions.
Strategy notes
- Hawkwind first. Every meaningful quest line in Eodon starts with Hawkwind. Rune to him before exploring.
- Tribes alliance is gated content. Several Time of Legends quests require the alliance with all six tribes before the Myrmidex Battles or the Shadowguard pre-quest will accept the character. Plan the tribal questline as a single sweep.
- Shadowguard requires a coordinated party. The four-tower complex was tuned for groups of three to five. Solo runs are possible only with extreme overgear and most often fail at the Belfry Tower's timing puzzle.
- Tyrannosaurus mounts need 110+ Animal Taming — they are not gentle starter pets. Plan the tame for endgame.
- The Dragon Turtle Champion Spawn is the only non-Felucca Champion in Eodon — its Power Scroll drops fall under standard Champion mechanics, but the spawn area itself follows Trammel rules.
- The two Ogger chiefs are not the same character. Mistaking them produces failed quest dialogues — the Kurak and Barako tribes each have an "Ogger" High Chief in distinct settlements.
