Power Scrolls

A folio of the realm

Power Scrolls

Power Scrolls are the consumables that raise individual skill caps above Grandmaster (100). They were introduced in Publish 16 alongside the Champion Spawn system in mid-2002, simultaneously redefining the long-term progression curve and transforming Felucca into the central PvE economic engine. Most Power Scrolls drop only from Champion Spawns; the cap-raising system established the Elder (110) and Legendary (120) skill titles that still bracket the late game.

The four scroll tiers

Power Scrolls come in four tiers, each lifting the per-skill cap by 5 points:

Scroll Cap raise Title produced
Wondrous Scroll 100 → 105 Master
Exalted Scroll 105 → 110 Elder
Mythical Scroll 110 → 115 Master Elder
Legendary Scroll 115 → 120 Legendary

The cap raise is per skill, not per character. A Legendary Swordsman has 120 Swordsmanship; reaching 120 Tactics requires its own 120 Tactics Power Scroll. Power Scrolls do not stack — consuming two 110 Magery scrolls does not produce a 120 cap. Each higher-tier scroll consumes the previous tier's cap.

Cursed status — and the 105 exception

110, 115, and 120 non-crafting Power Scrolls are always Cursed: they cannot be insured or blessed. They drop in the player's pack on Champion Spawn completion, must be carried out of Felucca to a safe location, and lost on death.

105 Power Scrolls can be insured — the lone exception. This makes the 105 tier the most freely-traded: cheap, low-stakes, and routinely given away or dropped on the ground around banks for free pickup.

Where they come from

Source Skills covered
Champion Spawns (Felucca, Ilshenar, Tokuno) Most combat and magic skills.
Bulk Order Deeds Blacksmithy and Tailoring scrolls — exclusive to BOD turn-in rewards.
Professional Fisher Quest chain Fishing scroll — exclusive to high-tier fisher quests.
Mastering the Soulforge quest line Imbuing scroll — exclusive to that quest.
Treasure Maps (Cache, Hoard, Trove level — Felucca only) 105 and 110 scrolls; the skill matches the adventuring profession that buried the chest.

The Champion Spawn path is the production-line source — the spawns drop scrolls based on which spawn is being run (each spawn has a fixed scroll-skill table). The other paths are gated behind specific systems (BODs, fisher quests, Imbuing) for skills outside the Champion Spawn tables.

Skills with Power Scrolls

A Power Scroll exists for all 35 of the following skills (caps raise from 100 to 120 in 5-point increments):

Skills WITHOUT Power Scrolls

These skills cap at 100 (or, in Mining's case, 105 with Mining Gloves):

For these skills, Scrolls of Transcendence (covered separately) are the only above-100 path — and even those cannot lift the cap, only push the skill toward 100 faster.

Scroll titles

Above 100, character titles change at specific thresholds:

Skill level Title earned
100 Grandmaster
110 Elder
120 Legendary

A character at 120 Magery is a "Legendary Mage" — the title appears on the paperdoll and overhead name. Legendary titles are the public marker of full skill commitment.

Champion Spawn drop tables

Each Champion Spawn rewards Power Scrolls drawn from a specific skill subset matched to the spawn's theme:

Champion Theme Scroll skills (representative)
Mephitis Arachnid Magery, Eval Int, Resisting Spells, Meditation
Barracoon the Piper Vermin Animal Taming, Animal Lore, Veterinary, Healing
Rikktor Reptile Tactics, Anatomy, Swordsmanship, Healing
Lord Oaks Forest Spellweaving, Magery, Mysticism, Chivalry
Semidar Demon Necromancy, Spirit Speak, Magery, Eval Int
Serado Tokuno (Plain) Bushido, Ninjitsu, Stealth, Hiding
Ilhenir the Stained Corrupted Necromancy, Spirit Speak, Magery, Resisting Spells
Twaulo of the Glade Forest (Ilshenar) Animal Taming, Animal Lore, Spellweaving
Andros Crystal (Stygian Abyss) Mysticism, Imbuing, Focus, Magery
Neira the Necromancer Undead Necromancy, Spirit Speak, Magery, Resisting Spells
Meraktus the Tormented (no altar; not standard champion) No scrolls (does not drop them)

Modern Champion Spawn rotations include additional spawns; the table above is representative, not exhaustive. See the Champion Spawn article in the Codex for full spawn coverage.

The Felucca economy

Power Scrolls are the central reason Felucca remains a high-traffic facet despite consensual PvP. The scroll drop rates and the 105-110 / 115-120 quality split create a tight market:

  • 105 scrolls: very common; often free at banks. Players pick them up for free or for a few thousand gold.
  • 110 scrolls: common but variably-priced; a 110 Magery scroll is cheap, but a 110 Imbuing scroll is rare (Imbuing scrolls don't drop from Champion Spawns).
  • 115 scrolls: uncommon. Most players who want 115 will skill-up to 120 anyway, so the tier is often skipped.
  • 120 scrolls: rare. Prices are well-known and stable — a 120 Magery, Tailoring, or Eval Int scroll routinely commands tens of millions of gold; a 120 Anatomy or Tactics scroll is even higher because every dexer wants both.

The City of Luna (Malas) is the conventional Power Scroll trading hub. Player vendors stock the full scroll roster at known market prices.

Use procedure

  1. Place the Power Scroll in the character's pack.
  2. Double-click the scroll.
  3. Confirm the gump.
  4. The cap is permanently raised by 5 points.

The character's actual skill does not change — only the cap. The character must then train the skill normally up to the new cap. A 100 Magery character who consumes a 105 scroll is now able to reach 105 through standard training; their skill is still 100 until they train it.

A character who already has trained skill above the new cap (impossible in normal play) is unaffected — the scroll simply wastes if no further training is possible.

Strategy notes

  • Buy Power Scrolls in trade order: 110 first, 120 last. A typical full-build progression: 100 → 110 (Exalted scroll, cheap) → 115 (often skipped) → 120 (Legendary, expensive). Most players save gold for the 120, picking up 110 scrolls cheaply along the way.
  • Veteran advice on 120 scrolls: buy when you see one. Prices are stable but supply is irregular; a Legendary scroll for the right skill at a reasonable price may not appear again for weeks on a smaller shard.
  • Crafted Power Scrolls (Smith, Tailor, Fishing, Imbuing) are the bottleneck. Champion Spawn farming does not produce these. Plan a parallel BOD or Quest grind alongside the spawn farming.
  • Cursed scrolls travel risk. Carrying a 120 scroll out of Felucca means staying alive long enough to recall to a Trammel rune. Stealth and Hiding are the rogue's safety net during the carry.
  • Justice Virtue Protection. Pairing with another player as Justice Protector gives both players an additional Power Scroll drop chance during the pairing duration. Champions Spawn parties run Justice protection for the doubled scroll drop probability.
