Spellweaving

A folio of the realm

Spellweaving

Spellweaving is the arcane discipline of the Elves — a school of magic woven from astral threads rather than reagents, bound to the lore of Mondain's Legacy and powered through the Arcane Focus crystal generated by the Arcane Circle ritual. The skill encourages cooperative casting: when multiple spellweavers stand together within the same Arcane Circle and weave the spell in unison, the resulting Focus is stronger and the spells they cast through it more potent. There is no requirement to remain together once the Focus has been claimed, but the bonus is the system's design intent.

Each spell carries a Word of Power — a single elvish term spoken at the moment of casting (Myrshalee, Haeldril, Thalshara, and so on through the canon). Three Skill Masteries extend the discipline further: Enchanted Summoning, Mana Shield, and Summon Reaper.

Acquiring the discipline

Spellweaving cannot be selected at character creation. It must be earned by completing one of two quest chains, granted by the Elven cities:

Either quest chain rewards the same package: a Spellweaving spellbook, an Arcane Circle scroll, and a Gift of Renewal scroll. The remaining 13 spells are dropped from monsters in the Mondain's Legacy dungeons, traded among players, or — in the case of two summon spells — earned through additional quests:

Spellweaving uses no reagents. The Lower Reagent Cost property is irrelevant for the discipline; only Lower Mana Cost and Mana Regeneration matter for casting economy.

The sixteen spells

Icon Spell Word of Power Mana Min Skill Effect
1 Arcane Circle Myrshalee 24 0 Creates an Arcane Focus crystal that empowers all subsequent Spellweaving spells. The Focus persists in inventory and increases in strength when multiple spellweavers cast Arcane Circle together while standing on a true Arcane Circle, Pentagram, or Abattoir.
2 Attunement Haeldril 24 0 Summons a magical shield around the caster that absorbs incoming melee damage for the duration.
3 Gift of Renewal Olorisstra 24 0 Heals a target repeatedly for several seconds — a healing-over-time ward, ideal for sustained engagements.
4 Nature's Fury Rauvvrae 24 0 Conjures an uncontrollable swarm of insects that attack any nearby enemies. The swarm is hostile to the caster's foes by location, not by tag.
5 Immolating Weapon Thalshara 32 10 Enchants the caster's currently-equipped melee weapon with bonus fire damage for a short duration. The standard 20 → 33 training cast — fast cast time, melee weapon required.
6 Thunderstorm Erelonia 32 10 Mass energy damage centered on the caster, with a chance to inflict a Faster Casting Recovery penalty on enemy spellcasters within range.
7 Arcane Empowerment Aslavdra 50 24 Enhances the caster's healing and damaging spells and increases the toughness of summoned creatures. The cooperative-casting force-multiplier.
8 Ethereal Voyage Orlavdra 32 24 Renders the caster invisible to monster aggro for a short duration — monsters cannot "see" or target the caster. The escape spell of choice for pulled aggro.
9 Reaper Form Tarisstree 34 24 Transforms the caster into a Reaper. Bonuses: increased swing speed, +spell damage, increased physical/poison/cold/energy resists. Penalties: -25 Fire resist, reduced movement speed. The standard high-end damage form for Spellweavers.
10 Gift of Life Illorae 70 38 An auto-resurrection ward. While in effect on the caster (or the caster's pet), the beneficiary will be resurrected automatically upon death. Major raid utility.
11 Summon Fey Alalithra 10 38 Summons one or more controllable Pixies. Requires completion of the Friend of the Fey quest.
12 Summon Fiend Nylisstra 10 38 Summons one or more controllable Imps. Requires completion of the Fiendish Friends quest.
13 Dryad Allure Rathril 40 52 Charms a non-player humanoid target into following the caster's bidding. The crowd-control standard for Spellweaving in PvE; does not work on player characters.
14 Essence of Wind Anathrae 40 52 Cold damage to all nearby enemies, with a Faster Casting and swing-speed penalty applied to those struck.
15 Wildfire Haelyn 50 66 Creates a persistent field of flame that damages any enemy standing within it. Area-denial spell — pairs naturally with Reaper Form's swing speed for a tankier caster.
16 Word of Death Nyraxle 50 83 Massive damage to creatures already low in health — the execution finisher. The terminal Spellweaving spell, mechanically gated to top-end skill values.

Training

The Patience and Discipline quests start the spellbook with three slots filled (the spellbook itself, Arcane Circle, Gift of Renewal). Build out the rest by farming Mondain's Legacy dungeon drops or buying scrolls, then follow the conventional gain ladder:

Skill range Cast Notes
0 – 20 Arcane Circle Stand on an Arcane Circle item, Pentagram, or Abattoir — anywhere they exist. The roof of the Umbra inn is a popular spot to mark a recall rune. Cast repeatedly.
20 – 33 Immolating Weapon Equip any melee weapon to cast. Faster cast time than Thunderstorm at the same skill range.
33 – 44 Reaper Form Suit must carry 40% Lower Mana Cost and as much Mana Regeneration as possible. Note: Lower Reagent Cost is useless for Spellweaving.
44 – 60 Summon Fey or Summon Fiend Either spell trains identically. Summon Fiend causes Karma loss — Summon Fey is the karma-neutral choice.
60 – 74 Essence of Wind Cast against any nearby target.
74 – 90 Wildfire Target yourself — Wildfire does no damage to its caster but the cast still counts toward gains.
90 – 120 Word of Death Target yourself and heal as needed. To reduce self-damage, discard the Arcane Focus crystal before casting.

Skill above 100 requires Spellweaving Power Scrolls; the cap rises in 5-point increments to a maximum of 120.

The Guaranteed Gaining System (GGS) covers any band where direct casting is yellow or red on the spell-skill compatibility chart — slow timed gains rather than the fast cycle, but reliable.

Arcane Focus and the cooperation bonus

The Arcane Focus crystal is the central economy of the discipline. Created by Arcane Circle, the crystal sits in the caster's pack and modifies every subsequent Spellweaving spell's effect. Solo casting produces a single-strength focus; cooperative casting produces a stronger one whose strength scales with the number of spellweavers participating in the same circle:

  • Solo cast — base focus, charges = base.
  • 2 weavers in unison — increased focus charges and effect.
  • 3+ weavers — peak focus, doubled charges, maximum spell-effect bonus.

The cooperative cast must occur on a true Arcane Circle (the static items found in Heartwood and other Elven locations), a Pentagram, or an Abattoir. All weavers must be standing on the circle when cast.

The Focus crystal is consumed gradually as spells are cast through it — each spell uses one charge. When the crystal exhausts, subsequent spells revert to base potency until a new Focus is woven.

Reaper Form

Reaper Form deserves a section to itself — it is the Spellweaver's standard combat shape and underpins most builds. The transformation grants:

  • Significantly increased melee swing speed (which only matters with the Mage Weapon property in hand).
  • A bonus to all spell damage cast in form.
  • +5 Physical, Poison, Cold, and Energy resists.
  • A flat -25 Fire resist (Reapers burn).
  • Reduced base movement speed (negligible for spellcasters).

The Mastery Summon Reaper elevates this further — a Reaper Form caster with the Mastery primer bound can summon an actual Reaper pet to fight alongside, while remaining transformed.

Mastery synergy

Spellweaving carries three Masteries — primer abilities that unlock specific upper-tier capabilities for the discipline:

  • Enchanted Summoning — increases the duration and stat scaling of Spellweaving summons (Pixies, Imps, the Reaper). Most valuable for hybrid summoner builds running multiple pets simultaneously with Tame Beast or Necromancy summons.
  • Mana Shield — converts a percentage of incoming damage into mana drain instead of HP loss. The defensive layer for low-HP / high-mana Spellweaver builds.
  • Summon Reaper — the upper-tier transformation: summons a controlled Reaper pet alongside the caster's existing form, doubling output during burn windows.

Strategy notes

  • Build for mana economy. Every Spellweaving spell is mana-only — no reagents, no spell-channeling weapon support. A Spellweaver suit that hits 40% LMC + max MR costs nothing to maintain mid-fight.
  • Arcane Focus matters. Re-weave the focus before any major engagement; spell potency drops noticeably without one. The Focus crystal can be discarded deliberately to reduce self-damage from Word of Death training.
  • Cooperative casting is the design payoff. Two or more Spellweavers from the same group can produce focus crystals far stronger than any solo cast. For raid content (Champion Spawns, Peerless bosses), align Arcane Circle casts before the engagement.
  • Reaper Form fire vulnerability. The flat -25 Fire resist makes Reaper-form Spellweavers brittle against Fire Elementals, Phoenixes, and any boss with fireball or magic-missile-fire damage. Drop form before engaging fire-heavy mobs.
  • Word of Death is an executioner. Hold the spell for the kill window. Damage scales inversely with target HP — at full health it does almost nothing; against a creature near death, it lands for several hundred points and almost always kills outright.
  • Heartwood is home. The Arcane Circle items, the Friend of the Fey questline, and the Discipline quest's Heartwood-side counterpart all start in or near Heartwood. A Spellweaver mains there.
