Time of Legends

Time of Legends — released March 2015 — is the expansion that introduced Eodon, the prehistoric "lost world" facet, alongside the Myrmidex Threat lore campaign and a roster of canonical "lost-civilisation" content. Time of Legends is the smallest of UO's major expansions in terms of new mechanics — no new skills, no new races — but it added a complete new facet (Eodon) populated with prehistoric beasts, tribal NPCs, the lost city of Kotl, and artifact-tier loot that became the canonical "Time of Legends gear" tier in the build optimization meta.

The expansion is the canonical entry point into the Eodon storyline arc that continues through subsequent publish cycles. Its monsters (Tyrannosaur, Saurosaur, Allosaurus, Boura, Najasaurus, Reptalon) became canonical Tamer pets and Provoker targets; its dungeon (the Painted Caves initially, then later the Treasures of the Kotl City) became canonical end-game gold-and-artifact farms.

What Time of Legends shipped

Feature Description
Eodon facet Prehistoric lost-world facet — the "Valley of Eodon"
Myrmidex Threat Lore campaign tying Eodon to the broader Britannia storyline
Tribal NPCs + Tyrants New NPC factions inhabiting the valley
Prehistoric monsters Tyrannosaur, Saurosaur, Pteranodon, Boura, Reptalon, Najasaurus
Kotl city Lost-civilization underground city
Time of Legends artifacts Boss-drop artifact tier rolling out from Eodon dungeons
Tribal questline Multi-stage questline for completion of the Eodon arc

Eodon

Eodon is the fifth facet of Britannia (after Felucca, Trammel, Malas, Tokuno, Ter Mur — actually sixth if counting Ter Mur from Stygian Abyss). The facet is a single large valley:

Eodon zone Description
Tribal villages Multiple — Jukari, Kurak, Sakkhra, etc. — each with their own quest content
Painted Caves Initial dungeon (covered in Painted Caves flagship)
Kotl City Lost civilization dungeon (later expansion)
Volcano region Active volcano with fire elementals
Jungle / swamp Multi-biome wilderness with prehistoric beasts

The valley is canonically isolated — only one entrance from a hidden Britannia plane, and the inhabitants speak no Common. Players entering Eodon must learn tribal dialogue conventions to advance the questline.

Prehistoric monsters

Time of Legends added a roster of unique creatures:

Creature Role Taming Difficulty
Tyrannosaur Rex High-HP melee boss Generally not tameable
Saurosaur Mid-tier dinosaur Tameable
Allosaurus Mid-tier dinosaur Tameable
Najasaurus High-tier mount-tier 89.7
Reptalon High-tier mount-tier 95.4
Boura (various) Mid-tier swamp mob Tameable
Pteranodon Flying / aerial creature Tameable
Tribal warriors / shamans / hunters Mid-tier humanoids Not tameable

The Najasaurus and Reptalon in particular became canonical Tamer end-game pets — both 5-slot creatures with strong combat profiles and Eodon-themed cosmetic appeal.

Tribal factions

The Eodon valley is divided into multiple tribal factions with their own quest chains:

Faction Theme
Jukari Cannibal tribe — hostile to most players
Kurak Spiritual / shamanic tribe
Barako Peaceful tribe — friendly questgiver
Sakkhra Reptilian / lizard-like tribe
Urali Rival tribe — quest-locked content
Tylos Dinosaur-allied tribe

Each tribe has friendly relations or hostility toward the player based on questline progression. Veterans navigate the tribal politics carefully to maximize questline rewards.

Kotl — the lost civilization

The Kotl are a lost civilization within Eodon — an ancient race that built underground cities before disappearing. The Kotl appear in:

Content Detail
Treasures of the Kotl City Recurring event — explore the underground city
Kotl artifact rewards Time of Legends-tier loot
Lore quest chain Multi-stage canonical campaign

The Kotl's lore canonically connects Eodon to the broader Britannia universe — they are the predecessors / cousins of the Britannian civilizations.

Myrmidex Threat — the lore campaign

The Myrmidex Threat is a multi-stage lore campaign beginning at Time of Legends and unfolding through subsequent publishes:

Stage Detail
Encounter Myrmidex (insectoid creatures) Initial discovery in Eodon caves
Tribal allegiance choice Players choose which tribe to support
Quest progression Multi-stage canonical narrative arcs
Faction-based artifact rewards Different rewards per faction allegiance

The campaign is opt-in — players can ignore Eodon entirely if they choose. For completion-focused players it provides 50+ hours of content.

Time of Legends artifacts

The expansion introduced an artifact tier rolling out from Eodon dungeons:

Artifact class Source
Tribal artifacts Tribal questline rewards
Kotl artifacts Treasures of the Kotl City event drops
Boss-drop tier High-end Eodon dungeon bosses
Heritage tier Some artifacts gated behind tribal questline completion

Many Time of Legends artifacts are still meta-relevant in modern UO — particularly stat-density rings + bracelets that compete with Imbued versions for specific build slots.

Tribal Mask connection

The Tribal Mask item is a Time of Legends-themed cosmetic, though it's also tied to the broader Tokuno-tribal aesthetic. The mask can be worn alongside Eodon-themed cosmetics for a unified "lost world" loadout.

Long-term legacy

Consequence Detail
Eodon as endgame Eodon dungeons (Painted Caves, Kotl City) became staple farm zones
Tribal pet meta Najasaurus / Reptalon entered the canonical Tamer roster
Lore expansion Britannia lore extends to the lost-world Kotl civilization
Recurring Treasures of Kotl events Periodic event-token cycles for collectors
